COMMON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN ORILLIA AND HOW TO USE THEM!

Orillia has a long growing season from late May to early October that offers great conditions for a variety of crops. This lends itself very well to eating in season locally. Eating in season locally means the food you eat is grown in the area where you eat it, and is purchased at the time of harvest. Eating in season locally is important because:

  • It can help people have control over their food system
  • It brings together community and culture (for example in community gardens)
  • It is good for the local economy
  • It is better for the environment
  • & it can encourage the development of a localized food infrastructure
