ABOUT THE FOOD RESOURCE COLLECTIVE

WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO?

The Food Resource Collective opened in 2022 with the goal of providing access to free and accessible food to students facing food insecurity. The Food Resource Collective aims to break down the stigma of accessing emergency food resources on campus by creating a welcoming and judgement free environment for students. We currently offer three free services to students facing food insecurity:

THE PANTRY:

Operates as a food bank and offers both in person and online emergency food support to students that need it.

THE GOOD FOOD BOX:

Provides a way for students to purchase a box of fresh fruits and vegetables at discounted prices.

THE FRESH MARKET:

Provides access to free produce once a month during the academic term for students.

Food Insecurity is a major concern for students at Canadian Universities. A study done in 2021 concluded that 56.8% of university students were facing food insecurity. That’s more than half! The Food Resource Collective aims to reduce this number at Lakehead University through its initiatives.
