Are you prepared for unexpected health expenses in Canada?
Dental and drug costs are very expensive in Canada. Without insurance, even a simple visit to the dentist or a prescription can cost hundreds of dollars. Get the coverage you need and avoid financial stress.
DID YOU KNOW?
There are two different types of health insurance plans for Lakehead University International Students:
1. UHIP through Lakehead University
Covers students for hospital, medical clinic and doctor visits, medical tests, surgery, etc. All international Undergraduate and Graduate students are automatically enrolled.
Contact: uhip@lakeheadu.ca for more information or click here.
2. LUSU Health & Dental Plan through the student union
Our plan provides coverage for services that are not usually covered by UHIP.
Why should you enrol in the Student Union (LUSU) health & dental plan if you have UHIP coverage?
The health & dental plan covers a wide range of services that UHIP does not cover:
+ Dental Care + Practitioners + Health Services & Supplies (diabetic, mobility) + Prescription Drugs + Eyewear & Exams + Accident + Travel + More!

It’s important to always check with each insurance provider to confirm their specific coordination of benefits procedures, as details may vary between your plans. Total reimbursement can’t exceed 100% of your costs.
- Always submit to the primary plan first.
- Use the secondary plan for leftover costs.
- Use a third plan only if costs still remain.
