The Multi-Cultural Centre provides a welcoming and inclusive space for students to learn about cultural diversity and discuss issues such as cultural identity, racism, and international development concerns. The Centre provides resources that empower and support students who are experiencing oppression related to race and culture. The Centre also runs events and campaigns that acknowledge and celebrate the cultural diversity at Lakehead and around the world.Roles and Responsibilities:
Assist in managing the day-to-day Operations of the Centre
Assist in answering emails and queries related to the Centre
Assist with financial management as per the Centre budget
Assist with preparing and hosting events and campaigns of the Centre
Assist in volunteer recruitment and supervision of volunteers throughout the term
Ensure adequate staffing/volunteers to facilitate Multi-Cultural Centre access for all students
Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and promoting educational campaigns related to the Centre’s mandate.
Assist with promotion of the Multi-Cultural Centre and its services, including all campaigns/events, within both the University and the community-at-large by fostering and maintaining the required relationships
Work in conjunction with the Multi-Cultural Centre Coordinator and the Vice-President Advocacy to apply for appropriate funding and grants in order to augment the campaigns and programming of the Centre
Develop and execute campaigns related to diversity and multiculturalism, including World AIDS Day, International Development Week, Black History Month, International Women’s Day, Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day, Cultural days and participation in World University Services Canada
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
Passionate about working on issues related to multiculturalism
Have creative and innovative ideas to plan and host events related tomulticulturalism
An understanding of and willingness to learn about issues regardingracialized students, people of color (POC) and multiculturalism
Experience in engaging, recruiting, and coordinating volunteers
Have a welcoming attitude and be able to work independently orcooperatively with other Assistant Centre Coordinators
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Have basic knowledge of LUSU’s services and supports
Previous customer service experience is an asset
Able to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
Demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, and leadership
Experience with making social media posts and vlogs
Able to answer emails in a professional and timely manner
Good digital skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Office, MicrosoftExcel, Google Suite, Instagram, and Canva
