Meet Sarwat Aijaz

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m Sarwat Aijaz, an international student in my third year of the BScN program at Lakehead University.

Born and raised in Saudi Arabia with roots in India, I know what it’s like to adjust to a new country, figure out housing, deal with healthcare, and tackle academic pressure—all while trying to find my place on campus. Whether you’re an local/Out of Town/international student, or in a demanding program (like nursing… no bias, I swear! 😆), or just navigating university life, I get it. I’ve been there!

That’s why I’m running for the Student Union Board of Directors! 🎉 I want to make sure every student’s voice is heard and that our campus is a more inclusive, supportive, and student-friendly space. University can be overwhelming, but with the right resources and representation, we can make it a place where everyone thrives.

I’m here to push for real change, improve student support, and make sure no one feels lost or unheard. Whether it’s better campus services, a smoother student experience, or just having someone to reach out to—I’m ready to make things happen!

So if you want a strong voice, real action, and a student rep who actually cares—VOTE FOR ME! 🗳️

I’ve always believed that leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about making a difference in the lives of others. In high school, I was honored to serve as valedictorian, a role that challenged me to step up, support my peers, and develop my ability to communicate and advocate for those around me.

Currently, I work as a Unit Care Aide at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, where I’ve learned the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and compassion. Working in healthcare has given me a firsthand look at what it means to support people in times of need, and it has shaped my ability to listen, adapt, and find solutions—all of which are crucial in student advocacy.

But beyond academics and work experience, what truly drives me is my own journey as a student. As an international and out-of-town student, I’ve faced the challenges of finding housing, accessing healthcare, managing student registration, and adjusting to a new environment. I know how overwhelming it can be, and that’s why I want to help make things easier for others.

I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I do know this—I care deeply about making sure every student feels heard, supported, and valued. With my experiences and dedication, I’m ready to step up and be a voice in the Student Union to help create a more inclusive, accessible, and student-friendly campus.

University can be exciting, challenging, and—let’s be real—sometimes overwhelming. But with the right support, it can also be an amazing experience. That’s why I’m running—to make sure every student, whether local or Out Of town or international has the resources, support, and voice they deserve.

If elected, here’s what I’ll focus on:

✅ Making Life Easier for Out Of town or international Students
I know firsthand how tough it can be to adjust to a new place , navigate housing, deal with paperwork, and find your place on campus. I want to push for better academic, financial, and cultural support to make this transition smoother. No one should feel lost or alone—we’re in this together!

✅ Better Resources for ALL Students
Whether it’s study materials, mental health support, or access to academic resources, I’ll work to make sure students have what they need to succeed—without unnecessary stress. Because let’s face it, we have enough deadlines and exams to worry about already!

✅ Real Advocacy, Real Action
Your voice matters, and I want to make sure it’s heard AND acted upon. I’ll work to bridge the gap between students and the Student Union so that real issues—academic concerns, campus improvements, and student well-being—get the attention they deserve.

I’m not here just to make promises—I’m here to make things happen. So if you want someone who will fight for you, support you, and actually listen, vote for me!
