Meet Caleb Garrow – Ledoux

My name is Caleb Garrow – Ledoux, and I am currently in my 3rd year of Civil Engineering at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

I am running for President because I believe our Student Union should be more than an organization — it should be a strong, visible advocate that delivers real results for students.

Over my time at Lakehead, I’ve seen firsthand both the incredible strengths of our campus and the challenges students face. Rising costs, mental health pressures, housing concerns, and the need for stronger communication between students and decision-makers are real issues that affect all of us. I’ve also seen how much potential we have when students come together with clear leadership and a shared vision.

What motivated me to run is simple: I want to ensure that every student feels represented, heard, and supported. I believe leadership means being approachable, accountable, and action-oriented. It means listening first, advocating strongly, and following through.

The President should be someone who:

  • Brings student concerns directly to administration and government
  • Provides transparent updates and clear communication
  • Builds unity across faculties and student groups
  • Focuses on practical solutions, not just promises

I am ready to put in the work to strengthen our Student Union, improve affordability and accessibility, and ensure that student voices are at the center of every major decision.

Lakehead students deserve strong representation and that is why I am running.

My background has been shaped by leadership, organization, and real-world experience in high-pressure environments.

I’ve had the opportunity to work within various levels of government, manage political campaigns at both the federal and provincial levels, and serve as a Project Coordinator in the civil construction sector. Through these roles, I’ve gained hands-on experience in budgeting, strategic planning, team leadership, and working directly with decision-makers to move projects forward.

Managing campaigns taught me how to build teams, communicate clearly, and stay focused on results. Working in government showed me how policies are developed and how to effectively advocate within structured systems. In the construction sector, I’ve been responsible for coordinating projects, managing timelines, and ensuring accountability — skills that translate directly into overseeing student union operations and initiatives.

These experiences have prepared me to lead with confidence, make informed decisions, manage finances responsibly, and most importantly, advocate effectively for students. I understand how to navigate complex systems and push for meaningful outcomes — and that’s exactly what strong student leadership requires.

Students today are balancing school, work, and financial pressure. My goal is to make campus life more affordable, more supportive, and more connected.

– Work with local businesses to secure stronger student discounts in Thunder Bay.
– Advocate for affordability in tuition, housing, and campus services.

2. Stronger Student Advocacy

– Provide regular updates so students know exactly what their union is working on.
– Ensure student concerns are brought directly to senior administration with follow-up and measurable outcomes.
– Strengthen LUSU’s relationships with community partners to expand student opportunities

3. Financial Accountability & Transparency

– Make the student union’s budget easier to understand and accessible to students.
– Focus spending on services and initiatives that directly benefit the student body.
– Review programs to ensure student dollars are being used effectively.

4. Campus Experience & Engagement

– Support more inclusive events that reflect the diversity of our campus.
– Strengthen supports for students facing financial or academic challenges.
– Improve communication so students actually know what resources are available to them.
– Adding more diverse and expanded food options.

Most importantly, my leadership style will be approachable, decisive, and action-oriented. I want students to feel comfortable bringing forward ideas and concerns and confident that something will be done about them.
