LUSU Health & Dental Plan: Opt-In Period
January 1 - January 31
Students starting their program in the Winter term are not eligible to be automatically enrolled in the plan and must enrol (opt-in) to receive coverage.
There are no extensions to the opt-in deadline. Late requests to opt-in will not be accepted under any circumstances. Even if you experience an emergency and need to opt-in after the deadline, you will not be eligible to enrol into the plan. If you need assistance with the opt-in application, contact healthbenefits@lusu.ca during the opt-in period. We will not be able to assist you if the deadline has passed.
How to opt-in
- Online applications are at https://lusu.ca/services-and-support/health-dental-plan during the Winter opt-in period January 1 – 31, 2026
- Fee: $435 for single coverage

Adding Dependents
- Students can add dependent Children and Spouses during the Winter opt-in period January 1 – 31, 2026 using the online opt-in application form available at https://lusu.ca/services-and-support/health-dental-plan
- Fee: $435 per person, charged up to a maximum of 4 dependents. Coverage for any additional dependents beyond 4 is included at no extra cost.
When will my plan be active?
- Applications will be reviewed and processed after the opt-in period closes on January 31, 2026. It takes approximately 8 to 10 weeks to process and activate coverage.
- Coverage will be backdated to January 1, 2026.
- Students who are approved will receive an activation email with details on how to use the plan and submit eligible claims dating back to January 1, 2026.
- To help avoid delays, ensure all information submitted is accurate.
Coverage period
- January 1, 2026 until August 31, 2026
- Inactive Period: At the start of your benefit term in January, there will be an inactive period while we finalize enrollment details and process opt-in applications. It takes approximately 8 to 10 weeks from January 1 to complete this process. Once enrollment is complete and the inactive period ends, you will receive emailed instructions on how you can register and log in to GreenShield+ and submit any eligible outstanding claims made January 1, 2026 onwards.
